Set off the West Coast of Canada in 1965, a hip new teacher with a miniskirt and lots of ideas turns a small town upside down. The soft autumn light of Galiano Island is beautifully rendered in writer/producer Peggy Thompson's The Lotus Eaters, and that's not the only elusive element that this film has captured. In revisiting its particular time and place - the Gulf Islands of the early '60s -Thompson obviously draws on her own family experiences there. For those who share Thompson's love of Gulf Islands magic, the elements she has assembled will feel as familiar as their own childhood blanket. But there are problems at the core of this story about a family's loss of innocence.

Follows the lives of British expatriates living on the island of Crete, where their secrets will soon rise to the surface.

For forty years, underground film-makers Greg Weaver and Spyder Wills documented surf discovery as it migrated around the world. Their shots captured on celluloid became the images for such films as Stylemasters, The Forgotten Island of Santosha, Big Wednesday, Pacific Vibrations, Uluwatu and many more. This documentary is a cinematic journey inspired by many of the reels that were lost in the making of these films. Since that time, these reels have resurfaced and are now brought to light. A fusion of rare super 8mm film, photo stills and contemporary interviews blend together to make Chasing the Lotus the most in-depth look at the evolution of the surf culture and surf discovery ever made.

The shooting of a prosperous and influential businessman leaves the residents of a small provincial town in a state of shock. While the initial investigation indicates that a woman may have been involved in the murder, the crime scene has been left clean, and detectives have very little evidence to go on. However, with the culprits still at large and the crime unsolved, the sudden death of this local celebrity is frightening the entire town. Fortunately, the investigator from the central prosecutor's office happens to be in town on vacation and steps in to head the murder investigation.

The first scenes take us to a temple beside the shores of a sacred river where virgins, clad in white, directed by solemn gray-bearded priests, go through the ritual of the worship of the lotus flower.

When Arjun, Bheem and Duryodhan, students of Guru Drona, are sent to the mountains to meditate as a punishment, they stumble upon the entrance to the mystical realm of Pataal, and are trapped. While escaping the clutches of her “helpers”, she meets some silent-cinema enthusiasts and learns to use the cinematograph as a tool for healing and self-discovery, as a weapon against her enemies and as a way to create a masterpiece.
